Premium Posters for Premium Brand Presentation

Block posters/showcards
– for premium window displays

Our premium posters – also called block posters or showcards – are the preferred solution for luxury and premium brands when sturdy, high-quality posters with printed edges are required.

By using high-quality folding boxboard such as chromo sulphate board (GZ) or chromo board (GC), these advertising posters offer brilliant colour reproduction, fine details and ideal skin tones as well as high stability and 8–20 mm thick printed edges.

Features & benefits:

  • Printed on one or both sides, including edges (all-round print)
  • Various gloss levels: matt, gloss, high gloss
  • Many formats from A4 to 6XL (up to 1,600 × 1,160 mm)
  • In thicknesses from 8–20 mm
  • For hanging and free-standing use
  • PVC-free & 100% recyclable
  • Lightweight, quick to install, delivered flat

Showcards are typically used in window campaigns and promotional areas in retail for product launches and seasonal campaigns. We also supply matching side banners/extensions as well as product plinths and decorative columns or column sleeves/covers for existing in-store structures.

Posters with metal rails
– for cost-efficient window displays

Posters with metal rails – also called kakemonos, roll affiches or roll-up banners – are a cost-efficient solution for shop windows and walls in retail, at trade fairs and events.
The window banners are printed on one or both sides on art paperboard and fitted with white or black hollow round rails – with additional weighting if required. This ensures they hang perfectly flat without waves or distortion – ideal for large visuals and long motifs.

Another advantage: railed posters can be shipped rolled, which reduces logistics costs and simplifies replacement in store networks.

Benefits:

  • Perfect flatness without waves
  • Ideal for large formats and vertical motifs (kakemonos)
  • Cost-efficient, among other things thanks to rolled shipment
  • Simple wall/ceiling mounting thanks to integrated cord
  • Double-sided printing enables communication both to the street and into the store at the same time

Frequently asked questions

Digital printing is particularly worthwhile for small to medium print runs, for multiple different motifs and for large formats or materials that cannot be processed using offset printing. Thanks to very low setup costs, several motifs can be produced without significant additional expense.

Due to the strong development of water-based digital printing technologies, we can now also produce medium to high three-digit quantities economically with digital printing – in a quality that matches offset printing.

A key advantage of the water-based digital printing used at KOHLSCHEIN compared to conventional UV digital printing is the use of recyclable and odour-neutral inks, which can be easily recycled in paper-based material cycles.

Offset printing remains more economical for very large print runs, despite longer setup times and higher fixed costs. In addition, each motif requires setup and generates waste material, which is relevant both in terms of cost and ecology.

For retail posters, POS materials and window campaigns, we therefore increasingly rely on water-based digital printing – fast, flexible, economical and environmentally friendly.

Quality criteria for high-quality advertising posters at the retail POS and in shop windows:

  • Flatness & material stability
The larger the format, the more critical the flatness. Materials with open edges (e.g. corrugated board) warp more easily than solid board or display board, or block posters/showcards with a stable core and an outer layer made of folding boxboard.

  • Poster thickness & shape stability
Large posters should be produced from stronger materials or constructions to ensure shape stability and a clean appearance. Lower material usage is not automatically cheaper, as thinner materials/constructions are often more difficult to process by machine.

  • Suitable material for the motif
The substrate must match the visual style:
    • Skin tones require high colour stability and ideal whiteness of the substrate.
    • Uncoated boards create matte, natural effects.
    • Coated boards result in more brilliant and glossier finishes.

  • Recyclability & odour neutrality
For easy disposal with waste paper, recyclable water-based printing technologies should be used that preserve the recyclability of the posters. For indoor and retail applications, attention should be paid to odour-neutral printing technologies.

  • Edge quality & construction
    • Posters with printed edges often consist of folding boxboard with a stable core, e.g. corrugated board.
    • Art paperboard or display board with closed, light-coloured edges: a high-quality and economically attractive alternative.
    • Corrugated board with open edges: cheaper, but less sophisticated in appearance and flatness.

For simple poster printing there are many providers that produce thin paper posters for holder and frame systems. However, as soon as higher quality requirements, large formats, rigid cardboard posters or plastic-free alternatives are needed, the range of options becomes significantly smaller.

KOHLSCHEIN is one of the most specialised manufacturers in Germany of high-quality and environmentally friendly cardboard posters. We produce rigid advertising posters made from folding boxboard and display board, cost-efficient posters made from art paperboard with metal rails, as well as large-format solutions made from honeycomb boards. Always with excellent flatness and print quality and precise finishing.

What to look for in sustainable poster printing:

  • Recyclable, PVC-free materials
  • Water-based, odour-neutral printing technology
  • Flatness and material stability, especially for large formats
  • Correct choice of substrate for ideal colour reproduction of the motif

Especially for indoor use, plastics should be avoided. Cardboard posters can be easily disposed of and recycled with waste paper after use – provided they have been produced using suitable, recyclable printing technologies.
